SASSA Warns Public Against Ubuntu Life Misrepresentation‎

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has recently issued stern warnings to the public regarding the operations of Ubuntu Life, a private company offering funeral cover services. The warnings come after reports that the company has been using SASSA’s name, logo, and branding without permission, potentially misleading beneficiaries into believing that Ubuntu Life is affiliated with the government agency.

SASSA has clarified that it has no contracts or official relationship with Ubuntu Life, nor does it endorse any private company to handle grant applications or offer services on its behalf. The agency emphasized that all SASSA services are completely free. Therefore, any claims suggesting that beneficiaries must pay a fee to Ubuntu Life, or that the company is operating on SASSA’s behalf, are false and considered fraudulent.

The issue gained attention when Ubuntu Life reportedly used SASSA’s branding on cards and vehicles, creating confusion among some grant recipients. Following official warnings, Ubuntu Life has removed all references to SASSA from its cards and branding. SASSA’s intervention highlights the agency’s ongoing efforts to protect beneficiaries from deceptive practices by third parties.

SASSA continues to advise South Africans to remain vigilant and only use official channels when applying for grants or receiving social assistance. Beneficiaries are urged to report any suspicious activity or misleading claims to the agency immediately. This move by SASSA reinforces the importance of transparency and trust in managing social services, ensuring that citizens are protected from fraudulent schemes.‎
