POLICE LAUNCH PROBE AFTER HUMAN SKELETON FOUND IN PROTEA GLEN

The community of Protea Glen, Soweto, was left in shock on Saturday afternoon following the discovery of what is believed to be a human skeleton along Thutlwa Street in Protea City. The gruesome find has sparked concern and fear among residents, prompting an immediate police investigation.

According to Nandipha Mbekwa from the office of the Ward 13 Councillor, the skeletal remains were discovered by municipal workers who were cutting grass in the area. On closer inspection, the workers noticed bones and pieces of clothing partially buried under the overgrown grass.

“When we arrived at the scene, we found what appeared to be the skeleton of a man, dressed in a black track top and wearing All Star takkies,” Mbekwa Stated. Police were immediately called to the scene and cordoned off the area as forensic experts began their preliminary investigation.

The identity of the deceased remains unknown at this stage. Police officials have appealed to residents who may have missing family members or friends to come forward and assist with identification.

Local residents have expressed deep concern about safety in the area, with many calling for increased patrols and the clearing of neglected open spaces where criminal activity could occur unnoticed.

As the investigation continues, the discovery has reopened conversations about community vigilance and crime prevention in Protea Glen. Authorities have urged anyone with information to contact the nearest police station.

The incident serves as a sobering reminder of the challenges facing township safety and the need for stronger collaboration between residents, councillors, and law enforcement.
